Hotels in Barcelona

Hotel Ciutat del Prat Barcelona

The Hotel El Prat is one of the hotels that’s good for an overnight stay if you want to be close to the airport and don’t need or want to go into town – so essentially it’s one of the Barcelona airport hotels.

With 130 double rooms, the hotel has 24 hour room service and the quality of the food is good, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean.

It’s a ten Euro or so taxi ride from the airport, and the hotel has a courtesy shuttle bus, not shared with other hotels in Barcelona, running every half an hour during the day to the airport.

We’ve stayed there ourselves twice now while en route to Andorra, breaking up the journey from the UK, and if you’re just passing through we think this is one of the best hotels in Barcelona.

Alexandra Hotel

Telephone: 0034 93 467 7166

The Alexandra has 99 rooms and is 4 stars. A ten to fifteen minute walk from the city centre. Modern rooms, close to restaurants and shops, the Alexandra has good friendly and efficient staff, most of whom speak excellent English. Overall one of the better hotels in Barcelona to stay in if you want to be close to the centre.

Hotel Majestic (5 Stars)

403 rooms
Tele: 0034 93 488 1717

The Alexandra has 99 rooms and is 4 stars.

A ten to fifteen minute walk from the city centre. Modern rooms, close to restaurants and shops, the Alexandra has good friendly and efficient staff, most of whom speak excellent English.

Overall one of the better hotels in Barcelona to stay in if you want to be close to the centre.

Ambassador Hotel

Telephone: 0034 93 412 0530

The Ambassador is one of the best with regards to location if you’re visiting for pleasure rather than business. Not a cheap one due to the location.

Overall the Ambassador is modern and fine if you’re not planning on spending long periods of time in the city. Worth noting down on a shortlist of possibles if you can get a good deal and it works out cheap. The Ambassador seems to be popular for those going on to Andorra for a ski holiday

Royal Superior Hotel (4 Stars)

108 Rooms
Tele: +34 93 301 9400

For location the Royal is excellent for those who want the city centre and to be on the Las Ramblas Boulevard - as well as being close to the city's shopping area, it is close to the Opera House and the Picasso Museum.

But if you’re looking for accommodation with good reception staff and somewhere you might want to have a meal after a hard day out seeing the sights, this one according to quite a few guests is not the one to book.
Majorca is popular for Spanish tourists and some stay here before going over to the island for their Majorca holidays but if you want to be close to the airport and not spending much time in the city, there are better options closer to the airport than this one. Overall ok if you’re just looking for a one night no-frills stay.

Hotel Caledonian (3 Stars)

51 rooms
Tele: +34 93 453 0200

The plus point for the Caledonian is that it’s just a five to ten minute walk away from the main part of the city, and if you’re considering somewhere cheap and basic it could be a good one to consider.

Those en-route to Andorra for skiing or to look at Andorra property for sale might want to consider it for example.

But don’t expect much in terms of staff being helpful or amenities. The old maxim that you get what you pay for doesn’t always apply as some great deals can be found with companies like expedia but unless you see that the Caledonian is offering a better deal than most and you’re looking for a no frills trip, it might be worth considering elsewhere.

Hilton Barcelona (4 Stars)

286 Rooms
Tele: (34) 934 957 777

If a hotel that is part of a large chain appeals, the Hilton in Barcelona is a good choice. Professionally run and efficient, the staff are knowledgeable about local facilities and how to get from A to B. Near to the airport and good for Barcelona's conference and exhibition centre. Good for a business trip, with a range of rooms.

Around half an hour cab ride from the airport and quite far out of the main city centre, so perhaps not suitable for weekend trips.

Of all the hotels in Barcelona the staff come near the top for a pleasant attitude and efficiency.
